Verse of the Day

January 9, 2008

I just added Verse of the Day to the index page - its from www.biblegateway.com, a great site to find tons of Bible translations.  Its really neat to be able to read different translations and compare the texts.   Todays verse is about where your treasure is - there your heart will be also.  Its a good verse for those of us dealing with the post-Christmas financial aftermath. Bills can really weigh you down, but God lifts us back up.  When I feel overwhelmed, I remind myself that God owns the cattle on a thousand hills - all this stuff we think we own, well, it's really His!  He owns everything - He can pay our bills even when we can't.  Our pastor at church told of a great story where he received a check for $500 to the Pastors Discretionary Fund from an old church member who moved away.  A day or 2 later, someone in the church came to him about a gentleman outside the church who needed money.... How much was he hoping to share with the man?  $500! God provided the funds before the need was made known.  Pretty cool, huh?

A quick thought....

January 8, 2008

I read this in an email today....

Henry Kaiser once said, “When your work speaks for itself, don’t interrupt.”

Thoughts of Love

January 5, 2008

A good friend and I had a great chat over a cup of coffee and a piece of apple pie.  She reminded me of something very important - God commands us to love each other.  She said that its easy to love those that we get along with, gave birth to, or enjoy spending time with.  It's much harder to love those we don't like.  She didn't know it, but she was making me feel a little convicted.  Do I really have to love the guy that trampled our rain spout and lied about it?  *sigh*   Just when I think I've got a little piece of the Christian life figured out, God reveals another layer of rotten flesh that He wants to peel away.  Good thing He's always available to help!

Leeches in God's Kingdom

January 3, 2008

It's been a joyous 6 months - and a difficult 6 months, too.  My son was born 3 months early and we had quite a journey in the NICU.  But I learned some amazing lessons through his very special birth.

For almost 11 years, I was told I shouldn't have kids of my own, that my body couldn't handle it.  And yet, after so many years of waiting, I was finally told that it would be ok to have a  baby, and God blessed me with a very special child.  I was on bed rest for 5 weeks during my pregnancy, and had a difficult recovery from the C-Section.  I felt like all I could do was spend time in the NICU with my son and husband and then come home and sleep.  For the first time since I could remember, I was unable to do ministry.  I felt like a leech in God's Kingdom, lol!

But I learned something so important - that I don't have to be doing "important things" for God in order for Him to be doing amazing things in my life.  And not one of us can 'earn our keep' in God's Kingdom.  When we do ministry it's not to 'do our share' so much as it is give back to the amazing God who gives freely to us and to share with others what God has done.  I am thrilled to be able to share with you what a precious gift God has given me when he gave me my son.    I am able to more deeply appreciate the gift that God gave us when He gave us HIS Son, our Savior.  In a sense, we are all leeches in God's Kingdom - we can't earn our way into heaven, and we can't even 'earn our keep' on earth!   I leave you with one of my favorite Psalms - which has become even more important to me in the past months!

Psalm 139

For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.

1 O LORD, you have searched me  and you know me.

2 You know when I sit and when I rise;  you perceive my thoughts from afar.

3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.

4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.

5 You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,

10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,"

12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.

13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,  16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!

18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.

19 If only you would slay the wicked, O God!    Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!

20 They speak of you with evil intent;  your adversaries misuse your name.

21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD,  and abhor those who rise up against you?

22 I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.

24 See if there is any offensive way in me,  and lead me in the way everlasting.
